Il Corso in Scienze dell’AntichitĂ  continua nell’Ateneo genovese l’illustre tradizione di studi classici che ha avuto in passato docenti di prestigio internazionale e costituisce la naturale prosecuzione per i laureati del Corso di Studio triennale in Conservazione dei BeniCulturali (curriculum archeologico), in Lettere (indirizzo classico) ed in Storia, che intendono perfezionare la propria preparazione in prospettiva sia della ricerca scientifica accedendo ai dottorati di ricerca, sia dell’insegnamento delle materie letterarie nelle Scuole medie (primarie e secondarie), sia degli sbocchi occupazionali legati alla professione di Archeologo.

Il Corso offre agli studenti la possibilitĂ  di approfondire un ampio spettro di tematiche relative al mondo antico, dagli aspetti filologici e letterari a quelli storici ed archeologici, disponendo anche di ricche ed articolate biblioteche, integrate con strumenti informatici. Viene in questo modo stimolato un approccio di studio realmente interdisciplinare, che trae giovamento anche da alcune iniziative comuni ai due percorsi formativi (lettere ed archeologia), quali seminari e viaggi di studio.

Il numero limitato di studenti e la ubicazione delle strutture di studio e di ricerca all’interno degli edifici storici di via Balbi, determinano la creazione di un ambiente tranquillo, che favorisce una proficua frequenza alle attivitĂ  didattiche e scientifiche tenute dai docenti.

Si segnalano, in ambito filologico-letterario, il Centro Italiano dell’AnnĂ©e Philologique, diretto dal Prof. F. Montanari, ed i progetti presentati sul portale Aristarchus (http://www.aristarchus.unige.it/ ): Lessico dei grammatici greci antichi (LGGA); Poorly attested words in ancient Greek (PAWAG); Scholia minora in Homerum. Tra le attivitĂ  scientifiche del DAFIST a cui afferisce il Corso sono le pubblicazioni delle riviste Maia (letteratura classica), “Silvae” (didattica del latino), della collana “Futurantico” e l’organizzazione del convegno a cadenza annuale “Latina didaxis”.

Per quanto riguarda gli studi archeologici, i docenti del corso sono attivamente impegnati in ricerche sul campo in Liguria, Sardegna (Nora-CA: http://www.fastionline.org/micro_view.php?item_key=fst_cd&fst_cd=AIAC_3026), Toscana (Marsiliana d’Albegna), Campania (Policastro Bussentino: http://etrurianova.altervista.org/joomla/it/progetti/progetto-policastro.html, https://www.facebook.com/progettopolicastro.archeologia), a Creta e in Israele (San Giovanni d’Acri).

E’ possibile inoltre testare le conoscenze acquisite per gli studenti di archeologia presso i Laboratori di Paletnologia e di Archeologia classica, che utilizzano materiale didattico ma possono usufruire anche dei reperti della Collezione di ceramiche antiche dell’Ateneo; e per gli studenti di filologia esercitarsi sui papiri in greco della Collezione dell’UniversitĂ ; tra le possibilitĂ  offerte agli studenti dell’ultimo anno c’è l’occasione di collaborare alla “Rassegna della letteratura italiana” (sessione diretta dal prof. Q. Marini).

The Master’s Degree Course in Science of Antiquities at the University of Genoa carries on the long-standing tradition of classical studies initiated by scholars of international repute. In order to be admitted to the MA Course in Science of Antiquities students must have completed a three-year Bachelor Degree Course such as the BA Courses in Cultural Heritage Management (syllabus in Archaeology), Letters (syllabus in Classical Letters) and/or History offered by the University of Genoa. The MA in Science of Antiquities represents therefore an invaluable opportunity for those students who wish to complete their education in order to gain admittance to a PhD course, to become teachers in middle schools or high schools, or to work as archaeologists.

In particular, this particular MA provides students with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of a wide variety of aspects connected to the Ancient world, ranging from philological and literary to historical and archaeological aspects. In addition, a number of well-equipped and well-stocked libraries and initiatives such as seminars, conferences and educational trips are meant to support students in developing an interdisciplinary approach to the study of antiquities.

Furthermore, the limited number of students and the possibility to have access to the historical buildings in Balbi Street contribute to the creation of a peaceful and stimulating environment which encourages the attendance of classes, seminars and conferences.

With regard to the syllabus in Philology and Letters, important resources are represented by the Italian centre of Année Philologique, chaired by Prof. F. Montanari, and by the projects included in Aristarchus (http://www.aristarchus.unige.it/ ): Lexis of Ancient Greek grammarians (LGGA); Poorly attested words in ancient Greek (PAWAG); Scholia minora in Homerum. Among the research activities promoted by the Department of Antiquities, Philosophy, History and Geography (DAFIST), which supervises the MA Course in Science of Antiquities, can be listed the publication of the journals Maia (Classical letters) and Silvae (on the teaching of Latin), of the book series Futurantico, and the organisation of the annual conference “Latina didaxis”.

With regard to the syllabus in Archaeology, the lecturers and professors are actively involved in field research in Liguria, Sardinia (Nora (Cagliari): http://www.fastionline.org/micro_view.php?item_key=fst_cd&fst_cd=AIAC_3026),

Students in Archaeology can also test their skills in the Palethnology Lab or in the Classical Archaeology Lab, where they can study finds from the collection of ancient pottery of the University of Genoa; on the other hand, students in Philology can practise their skills thanks to the papyri written in Greek from the University collection; finally, second-year students can be offered the opportunity to work with the Rassegna della letteratura italiana, whose editorial board includes Prof. Q. Marini.
